The book presents some of the outcomes of some 20 years of research into the urban archaeology of 19 century Australia. Although its core focuses on the detailed, local archaeology of 20 cesspits in the Rocks area of Sydney and the Little Lon site in Melbourne Australia, discussion also includes two significant institutional sites in Sydney – First Government House and the Hyde Park Barracks.
