The Business of Development in Post-Colonial Africa
Produktform: Buch / Einband - fest (Hardcover)
This edited collection brings together a range of case studies of different European companies (most notably those of former colonial powers) and considers their work or involvement in development after European decolonisation. In these ways this book makes an original contribution to post-colonial studies, specifically in relation to development and business. Individual chapters by both established and early career scholars examine the activities of foreign enterprise in various African states, their strategies to stay in Africa, and explore how they were not just challenged by the new international landscape but benefitted from opportunities it offered, particularly those provided by development aid. This book will make important contributions to understanding of both business and development in post-colonial Africa. While both the history of business and of development are currently attracting new scholarly attention, to date far greater attention has been paid to each in the colonial period as opposed to the post-colonial. The chapters in this book focus on the early post-colonial period. Most importantly this volume breaks new ground as one of the very first to bring the study of foreign companies and development aid to post-colonial Africa into the same frame of analysis. weiterlesen
