The Geometry of Choice
Language, Culture and Education
Produktform: Buch / Einband - fest (Hardcover)
This book offers a cognitive-semantic insight into the roots of the human decision-making process, using the metaphor of choice as cube. The author offers an original reflection upon the conceptual roots of our choices in the key areas of social life, that is, language, culture and education. He argues that our everyday choices, whatever kind they are, become constrained by the cubic geometric structure of our spatio-temporal experience. Chapter 1 outlines the key notions and the philosophical setting of the book, while Chapter 2 discusses the notion of choice in the context of research in the field of Decision Sciences. Chapter 3 discusses in detail the effects of cubic geometry on our understanding of choice. Chapters 4–9 examine how the cubic structure of choice is manifested in linguistic cooperation, cultural organization, and higher education. Finally, Chapter 10 offers a synthesis by looking at the geometry of choice from both a philosophical and practical application. This book addresses issues relevant to a number of fields, including social epistemology, cognitive linguistics, cognitive anthropology, philosophy, culture and education studies, and will be of interest to readers in these and related disciplines. weiterlesen
