The Island

Produktform: Buch / Einband - flex.(Paperback)

An intimate approach to nature: The first of the two excursions took place in July 2020 and was sparked by sheer curiosity and a spirit of adventure. Moreover, the opportunity to travel the island in solitude, without too many tourists around, proved irresistible. Andreas Tobias quickly developed an intuitive approach as well as a noticeable sense of synchronicity with his environment. A playful exchange with nature ensued, spontaneously guiding the photographer through this process and connecting him with his surroundings. The pictures taken posed questions which the following shots answered, mirroring Tobias‘ natural curiosity and bewilderment while organising them at the same time. Back home, the photos he had taken astonished him. Working at various different levels, they appeared to try to show everything at once. A Personal Journey: In January 2021, in the painful throes of dissolving a relationship, the artist underwent a kind of healing ritual based on the experiences gained on his first Iceland journey. Learning to sit tight and endure the emotions and heartache in the solitude of quarantine, proved an additional lesson. As soon as circumstances allowed, he took to the road again. What followed was relief, a cash check and a catharsis through photography. From the Preface by the Artist: »With the help of my emotions, my eyes now surveyed the world more clearly. I had the courage to approach nature even closer, continuing to let her (or him?) guide me. I surrendered and devoted myself to the pictures. The big thing still consisted in the impossibility to show everything at once, and now even more than that – the way it‘s really only possible in dreams. Feelings might actually be the language of the soul; the language of the pictures helped me translate. If you genuinely want to change, life will assist you. Circumstances will arise spontaneously. It may at times feel like a dream, but it actually happens at your fingertips, right before your eyes.«weiterlesen
