As the internationalisation of historical scholarship is progressing, it is increasingly directed towards transnational questions and global coherences. This volume takes stock of the most recent developments. The authors introduce the most important concepts of transnational historiography, from historical comparison through European history and postcolonial studies to global perspectives on history. In addition, they discuss those fields of history that have traditionally taken a transnational perspective – such as Jewish history, intellectual history, the history of multinational companies and of consumption – as well as those in which comparative questions and questions of historical relations have gained importance over the last years – such as historical research into nationalism, the history of the working class, the history of the civil society and that of collective memory. Finally, approaches that – like cultural history or micro-history – seem to resist an internationalising point of view, are discussed with regard to their transnational dimension.weiterlesen
