The polemical dialogues of the German knight and poeta laureatus Ulrich von Hutten (1488–1523), originally published in Latin and later in part also translated into German, played an important role in the reformatory and anticlerical discourses between 1517 and 1521. In these fictional conversations Hutten generally follows the model of Lucian's satirical dialogues, except for the participation of well-known contemporaries (e.g. Martin Luther, Cardinal Cajetan and Hutten’s own persona) who position themselves and are positioned by their counterparts. In this survey I examine how these acts of mutual positioning, regarding not only the particular content of the dialogue but also the social relation of the participants, have contributed to the impact of Hutten’s dialogues and their reception in later Reformation dialogues.weiterlesen
