Life after having experienced extreme violence can often be a very difficult process for the victim, a process for which both society and the perpetrator carry a major responsibility. Forgetting, forgiving, and reconciling are terms that stand for social actions that serve to reconstruct the now vandalized space called togetherness. Although we desperately need to answer the question how such forgiveness and reconciliation can be achieved, we find only few psychoanalytic, social and cultural studies of this matter.
