Metropolitan areas and their residential sites in Baden-Württemberg –
Challenges for housing markets in growing regions
Between 2005 and the years of the Corona pandemic, a reurbanization trend emerged
in the major and medium-sized centers of Baden-Württemberg’s growth regions,
which led to an increase in demand for urban residential locations, in some cases significantly. The core cities in particular are less and less able to meet the resulting
growth spurts in terms of housing and building land policy.
Based on empirical findings on housing market development in Baden-Württemberg
and the Stuttgart region, this volume shows which strategies and options for action
exist for solving problems at the municipal level. Using the example of the Stuttgart
metropolitan area and the medium-sized center of Göppingen, it is shown that the
cities are increasingly unable to counter the problems on the housing markets despite
exhausting the legally possible control framework. The contributions discuss the role
of regional planning in connection with the development of new areas for housing
construction and outline ideas for solving the housing market problems on a regional
as well as inter-municipal level.weiterlesen
