The 20th Meeting of the Working Group on Prolamin Analysis and Toxicity (PWG) took place at Haus Maikammer, Zentrum für Arbeitssicherheit der Berufsgenossen- schaft Chemie in Maikammer, Germany, from 16 to 18 September, 2005. Our hosts, Mrs Sibylle von Schaabner and Mrs Anne Dermühl of Hammermühle Diät GmbH, Kirrweiler, welcomed the group, invited speakers and participants from industry (cereal starch producers, producers of gluten-free food, manufacturers of kits for gluten analysis) as well as representatives from international and national coeliac societies who attended the meeting. Again the meeting was connected to activities of the PWG at the Codex Alimentarius Committee level (CCMAS and CCNFSDU). Analytical reports included test results of the PWG R5 ELISA method for gluten analysis as well as other immunological and non-immunological methods. Clinical reports included glutenin toxicity and immune reactions in coeliac disease. State-of-the-art presentations were given on the clinical question of trace amounts of gluten in the treatment of coeliac disease and on the consumption of gluten-free foods in coeliac patients. weiterlesen
