Young Adult Drinking Styles
Current Perspectives on Research, Policy and Practice
Produktform: Buch / Einband - fest (Hardcover)
This book offers an interdisciplinary exploration of the complex ways in which young adults think about and approach alcohol consumption. It provides a comprehensive account of contemporary research in the area and addresses the changing trends in alcohol consumption among young people, which see fewer young adults consuming alcohol than has previously been reported. Chapters showcase an interdisciplinary range of perspectives from psychology, sociology, human geography to ethnography and addictive behaviours, policy and mixed methods research. Themes including the role of identity in relation to young adult drinking practices and issues relating to alcohol within friendship groups and non-drinkers, social change, religion, ethnicity and gender, and the role of social media. In acknowledging the complex nature of drinking styles among young adults, the contributors to this collection avoid traditional understandings of young adult drinking that pathologise and generalise. They advocate instead for an inclusive approach evident in the wide range of disciplinary backgrounds, cultural perspectives and international settings represented in this book, in order to better understand the economic, cultural and pharmacological crossroads at which we now stand. This book will appeal to researchers, theorists, practitioners and policy makers working in the alcohol field as well as to students conducting research or engaged in further studies across the social sciences.
