This study examines the use of English in Switzerland from a multilingual perspective based on a corpus of 400 interviews collected in the German speaking Canton of Zurich. It presents a framework for explaining the linguistic interaction that arises as a result of the use of a «globalizing» language in a multilingual context.

The series "Warsaw Studies in English Language and Literature" publishes contributions on various aspects of English Linguistics, English language teaching, and literature in English. In the area of Linguistics special emphasis will be laid on works on Historical English Linguistics and Cognitive Linguistics, as well as translation studies. In the area of literature the series will focus on English medieval and contemporary English literature, post colonial as well as American Literature.
