Aphrodisias in Caria (modern Turkey) has a remarkable body of relief-decorated marble sarcophagi of the Roman Imperial period. This monograph presents the sarcophagi decorated with columnar arcades in which a variety of human, divine, and mythological figures are presented. It sets the sarcophagi in their local archaeological, epigraphic, and regional contexts, and focuses on questions of chronology, social class, family life, burial hierarchy, and production and re-use.

The book is dedicated to the Theatre building at Aphrodisias and in particular its stage building. Dated by its two inscriptions between 30 and 27 BC, the theatre’s original stage building stood until its collapse in the seventh century and almost all of the elements of the stage façade were conserved by its transformation into a Byzantine fort.  The volume presents a restoration made from long years of study of the architectural elements. The study is of value to architectural development in the Greco-Roman world and reflects patterns in urban development from the Hellenistic to the Byzantine periods.

The volume is about the architecture and archaeology of the Civil Basilica of Aphrodisias, a huge public building built in the late first century AD. The book presents a detailed account of the Basilica's well-preserved remains and over hundred drawings by the author including a reconstruction of the display context for Diocletian’s Edict of Maximum Prices inscribed on the building's North Facade (with Michael Crawford). The Basilica is set in the context of several similar buildings in Asia Minor that together constitute a distinct regional form of the Roman basilica.

The Triconch House at Aphrodisias is one of the best preserved late antique houses in the Roman world. It represents only one phase, however, in a much longer continuum of occupation of its site, which was located at the heart of the monumental center of the Greco-Roman city. This book presents a detailed account of the late antique building as well as the history and development of its urban location, roughly the size of a city block, over the course of more than 1000 years, from around the first century BC through the twelfth century AD.

This study addresses the settlement at Aphrodisias, known to its medieval inhabitants as Karia, from the eighth through thirteenth centuries. Important bodies of archaeological data, including numismatics, funerary archaeology and liturgical sculpture are presented for the first time. The volume offers a holistic view onto a post-urban settlement functioning as a provincial outpost of the Byzantine Church, and demonstrates how the archaeology of ancient cities is mediated by medieval occupation, construction and curation.
