Upper Carboniferous sandstones are important tight gas reservoirs in Central Europe. This field-based study, conducted in a km-scale reservoir outcrop analog (Piesberg quarry, Lower Saxony Basin, NW Germany), focused on the diagenetic control on spatial reservoir quality distribution. Geothermometers were used to characterize a fault-related thermal anomaly. A prototype workflow based on terrestrial laser scanning is presented, which allowed for the automated detection and analysis of fractures.

This work develops and shows up methods to tackle multi-scale challenges in particle formation during precipitation crystallization. Firstly, molecular, micro- and meso-scale interactions in confined impinging jet mixers are investigated and simulatively predicted. Secondly, to build up on developed methods, macroscale as present for instance in stirred tank reactors is added to the considerations.

Die vorliegende Arbeit beschreibt ein Konzept zur Optimierung mobiler Antennensysteme. Die sogenannte Antennensynthese bestimmt mithilfe von simulierten oder gemessenen Übertragungskanälen optimale feste Richtcharakteristiken. Diese steigern die spektrale Effizienz und die Zuverlässigkeit des Antennensystems gegenüber herkömmlichen Antennen mit omnidirektionalen Richtcharakteristiken. Hierfür werden die Antennensysteme bestmöglich an die Vorzugsrichtungen des Kanals angepasst. This work describes an optimization concept for mobile antenna systems. The so-called antenna synthesis determines optimal fixed antenna radiation patterns with the help of simulated or measured transmission channels. These radiation patterns increase the spectral efficiency and the reliability of the antenna system compared to conventional antennas with omnidirectional radiation patterns. Therefor the antenna systems are matched as best as possible to the predominant directions of the channel.

Water as hazard and water as heritage“ was an international workshop which took place in the framework of the Spazi Aperti (Open spaces) event at the Accademia di Romania in Rome, an event engaging international fellows in the capital of Italy. The workshop was a winner in the selection of the European Geosciences Union co-sponsored meetings competition and as such participation was also multidisciplinary, from geosciences to archaeology, art history, urban planning and (landscape) architecture.

Silicon-organic hybrid (SOH) modulators add a highly efficient nonlinear organic electro-optic cladding material to the silicon photonic platform, thereby enabling efficient electro-optic modulation. In this book, the application potential of SOH modulators is investigated. Proof-of-principle experiments show that they can be used for high-speed communications at symbol rates up to 100 GBd and operated directly from a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) without additional driver amplifiers.

Mobile robotic systems need to perceive their surroundings in order to act independently. In this work a perception framework is developed which interprets the data of a binocular camera in order to transform it into a compact, expressive model of the environment. This model enables a mobile system to move in a targeted way and interact with its surroundings. It is shown how the developed methods also provide a solid basis for technical assistive aids for visually impaired people.

Die Erzählweisen vieler, junger Autoren der 1990er Jahre operieren gleichzeitig unter und mit den Bedingungen der ‚neuen Medien‘ und machen so beobachtbar, wie sich mit ihnen die Kommunikationsweisen verändern. Über das Erzählen wird ein bekannter Gegenstand wiederholt und wiederbelebt. Das Präsentwerden sinnlicher Effekte eines Mediums im anderen untersucht die in den 1990ern entstehende Mediologie. Deshalb wird die für die 1990er signifikante Art des Erzählens als ‚mediologisch‘ bezeichnet. The narrations of many young authors of the 1990s operate under and in the terms of the new media at the same time, so the reader is able to observe how media change forms of communication. With the narration a well-known topic is repeated and reanimated. The presence of sensual effects of one medium in another is analysed by the mediological method, which also develops in the 1990s. So this way of narrating, which is significant for the 1990s, is called mediological narration.

This work provides novel robust and regularized algorithms for parameter estimation with applications in vehicle tractive force prediction and mass estimation. Given a large record of real world data from test runs on public roads, recursive algorithms adjusted the unknown vehicle parameters under a broad variation of statistical assumptions for two linear gray-box models.

In dieser Arbeit wird das modellgestützte Kathodendesign für Lithium-Ionen Batterien vorgestellt, welches eine systematische Minimierung der Verluste und Steigerung der Energie- und Leistungsdichte ermöglicht. Durch eine Kombination von Mikrostrukturanalyse mittels FIB/SEM-Tomographie und elektrochemischer Impedanzspektroskopie wird das Kathodenmodell unabhängig von Literaturdaten parametriert und anschließend validiert. The model-aided cathode design for lithium ion batteries is presented, which enables a systematically minimization of loss processes and an increase of power and energy density. The cathode model is parametrized without values from literature by combining microstructure analysis via FIB/SEM tomography and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and finally validated.

In dieser Arbeit wird der Einfluss der beim Drapieren auf das Gewebe wirkenden Normalkraft bei verschiedenen Temperaturen auf das Scher-verhalten untersucht. Hierzu wird eine erweiterte Prüfmethode auf der Basis des Picture Frame Tests entwickelt und dessen Eignung nachgewiesen. Die Normalkraft und die mit der Variation der Temperaturen sich ändernde visko-elastische Reibung des mit Binder versehenen Gewebes zeigen einen signifikanten Anstieg des Scherwiderstandes. In this work the influence of normal force on the shear behavior of carbon fiber fabric during the draping process at different temperatures is investigated. For this purpose an extended test method based on the picture frame test is developed and its suitability tested. The normal force and the visco-elastic friction of the binder particles applied to the fabric show a significant increase in shear resistance.
