Lean management describes a set of methods combined with a management philosophy which aims at eliminating waste in logistics processes. In production logistics, lean is already widespread and applied successfully. Research has shown that lean also works in a warehousing environment. In transport logistics, lean is still at a low level of maturity in both research and practice. This work contributes to closing this gap by introducing Heijunka leveling to transport logistics.

This work presents a comprehensive investigation of the influence of geometry-dependent factors on performance metrics of superconducting single-photon detectors. With fundamental knowledge, main investigations are focused to extend the spectral bandwidth and to enhance the detection efficiency, especially in infrared range. The developed technology of single-spiral detectors and unconventional electron-beam lithography allows to improve the performance of superconducting detectors.

While the spectral information contained in hyperspectral images is rich, the spatial resolution of such images is in many cases very low. Many pixel spectra are mixtures of pure materials’ spectra and therefore need to be decomposed into their constituents. This work investigates new decomposition methods taking into account spectral, spatial and global 3D adjacency information. This allows for faster and more accurate decomposition results.

Durch die steigende Volatilität der Energiemärkte werden großindustrielle Verbraucher aufgefordert, ihr Lastprofil dem Angebot anzupassen. Aufgrund der inhärenten Produktspeicherung ist die kryogene Luftzerlegung hierfür besonders geeignet. Die einhergehende, hochdynamische Fahrweise stellt neue Herausforderungen an das Betriebskonzept dieser Anlagen. Mithilfe des entwickelten, druckgetriebenen dynamischen Kolonnenmodells wird ein lastflexibler Betrieb mit An- und Abfahrvorgängen untersucht. Driven by market signals, energy consumers are motivated to adapt their grid load. Due to their cryogenic storage capacity, air separation units can efficiently be used for load shifting. Such an operation leads to new challenges for plant operation and control. The developed pressure-driven dynamic column model is used to investigate load-flexible operation.

Es wird in virtuellen Fahrversuchen nachgewiesen, dass Mobile Arbeitsmaschinen wiederkehrende Arbeitsprozesse mit unterschiedlichen Fahrern erlernen und prädizieren können. This book focuses on the aspect of work process optimization and achieves forward-looking results through the use of intelligent, adaptive overall machine management.

While the universal quantum computer seems not in reach for the near future, this work focusses on analog quantum simulation of intriguing quantum models of light-matter interactions, with the goal of achieving a computational speed-up as compared to classical hardware. Existing building blocks of quantum hardware are used from superconducting circuits, that have proven to be a very suitable experimental platform for the implementation of model Hamiltonians at a high degree of controllability.

Modulare Produktarchitekturen sind sehr beliebt. Die Einführung einer modularen Struktur ist mit großem Aufwand verbunden. Diese Vorleistungen werden durch ein effizienteres Komplexitätshandling in der Nutzungsphase aufgewogen. Die modulare Architektur bleibt jedoch nicht stabil über deren Lebensdauer hinweg. Entscheidungen über neue Module sind zu treffen. Daher wurde eine neue Methodik zur Unterstützung von Variantenentscheidungen auf Modul-, Modulvarianten- sowie Produktebene erstellt. A prominent solution to control a company’s internal complexity is a modular product architecture. The implementation of a modular structure comes with high effort and cost. During the application phase these expenditures are compensated. However, a modular structure does not remain stable throughout its lifetime. Decisions on new modules have to be made. Therefore, a new method to support variant decisions on module, module variant and product level has been designed.

Based on physiological data, intelligent algorithms can assist with the classification and recognition of the most severely impaired victims. This book presents a new sensorbased triage platform with the main proposal to join different sensor and communications technologies into a portable device. This new device must be able to assist the rescue units along with the tactical planning of the operation. This work discusses the implementation and the evaluation of the platform.

The developed methodology provides an approach for integrating the customer into the processes of product-service-system providers. In addition to the differentiation from the competition, it also enables an increase in sales and profit margin.
