The growing awareness of the current climate crisis has led to an increased interest in the investigation of historical human-environment interactions. In this context, the micro-region has proven to be a significant category for ecological, socio-economic and cultural analyses. The present volume offers a collection of papers held in 2022 at an interdisciplinary workshop in Istanbul. They reflect on micro-regions from the ancient Mediterranean as spaces of socio-ecological interaction on a theoretical, methodological and empirical level and reveal perspectives for future research.

Im historischen Kontext wird das Ergebnis des Wettbewerbs zwischen keltischen Traditionen und römisch-mediterranen Einflüssen auf Kunst,Handwerk, Religion und Siedlungsformen von der Annexion Galliens durch Rom bis zum Zusammenbruch des Weströmischen Reiches dargestellt so wie es in den noch aufstehenden Ruinen, in den wichtigsten Ausgrabungsstätten und in den vorzüglichen Museen der Region wahrgenommen werden kann.

Der Buchdruck mit beweglichen Lettern beginnt in Zweibrücken mit Jörg Geßler. Alle Zweibrücker Drucke von ihm sind heute nur noch in einem einzigen Exemplar überliefert. Eine Auswahl davon ist in dieser Ausgabe faksimiliert. Der älteste datierte Druck aus dem Jahr 1492 veröffentlicht einen Wunderbericht „Wie Arnolt Boßman ein Geist erschien“. Diese Mirakelgeschichte wurde sehr bekannt und ihre Wirkung reichte bis in die Reformationszeit. Mit diesem Text wird ein Stück der selten überlieferten spätmittelalterlichen Volksliteratur faksimilert, der sich durch die lebhafte Art der Darstellung und einem gewissen Realismus von trockenem geistlichen Schrifttum unterscheidet. Der zweite bekannte Druck von Jörg Geßler thematisiert ein aufsehenerregendes politisches Ereignis, den so genannten „bretonischen Brautraub“ von 1491. Maximilian von Habsburg hatte per Stellvertreter Anne, die Erbin der Bretagne, geheiratet. Die Heirat wurde in Frankreich als Herausforderung und Fortsetzung habsburgischer Umklammerungspolitik gesehen. Karl VIII. von Frankreich marschierte daraufhin in die Bretagne ein und heiratete Anne de Bretagne 1491 selbst. Vorher hatte er ein bestehendes Verlöbnis mit Maximilians Tochter Margarethe von Österreich gelöst. Das Gedicht „Das Fräulein von Britannien“ von Hans Ortenstein griff den Stoff auf, wurde von Geßler gedruckt und erlangte im Volksmund große Beliebtheit.

The history of Palestine is one written by others, Roman and Arab conquerors, Ottoman and British rulers, and today a Zionist shadow looms. As if finally realizing that claims to territory demand a claim to history, following the defeat of 1967 some individuals began to write down their memories, a trend that has gathered apace in subsequent decades. These authors are not historians and they do not venture into the archives; they rely solely on their memory and many of them do not even live in Palestine. They share one thing: the hope that they will one day return. This hope is however not to be understood as a concrete physical relocation but rather a hope for the return of a Palestinian state. And this marks the second key date of this work: the year 2000, when these hopes were dashed.
