The death of the king was always one of the most significant events in the history of a rule. He gave the impetus to various symbolic representations, to produce a rich literature and extensive iconography. This volume brings together a series of papers which dealing with historical, iconographic and literary aspects of the king's end of life: the legendary figure of Alexander the Great, the different stories about the death of Emperor Henry VII, the circumstances of the demise of French and Castilian kings or the paradigmatic cases of Boccaccio; thirteen contributions that illustrate the richness of this subject in the medieval imagination.

Dem künstlerischen und pädagogischen Handlungsfeld Rhythmik, in dem Musik und Bewegung fächerübergreifend im Dialog stehen, fehlt oft Klarheit in der Darstellung, die seine Anliegen verständlich vermittelt. Die vorliegende Ausarbeitung greift Fragen nach den Grundlagen auf und ist als Plädoyer für die Rhythmik und ihre Bewahrung als traditionsreiches, elementares Teilgebiet der Musik und der Musikpädagogik angelegt.

The study analyses decorations of the First Style in terms of their appearance, diffusion, application, and importance in the Western Mediterranean. Based on fragments from more than a hundred sites, local and regional differences in the application and development of this decorative system are described for the first time. At the same time, it is able to highlight the significance of the First Style for the social élites, who consciously employed it in their homes as a display of status.

The study is dedicated to a detailed evaluation of the existing manuscript evidence of Plato's Nomoi as well as to the explanation of the textual tradition of this work. The mutual relationships of the existing textual witnesses are explored in detail with the intention of determining their role in the reconstitution of the text. At the same time, the focus is on the copyists and scholars who produced, emended and annotated these manuscripts.

In 532 chronologically ordered catalogue numbers, this volume records the annotated inscriptions of the south-eastern part of the present-day district of Mayen-Koblenz (former district of Koblenz and the town of Andernach with its incorporated suburbs of Eich, Kell, Miesenheim and Namedy) from the end of the 5th century to 1650. The more than 60 early medieval inscriptions from Kobern-Gondorf, Andernach and the Neuwied Basin, which provide significant insights into various aspects of the history of early Christianity on the Moselle and Rhine, occupy an exceptional position. From the middle of the 12th century or the middle of the 13th century, the series of these special sources is impressively continued with a wide variety of inscriptions from the monasteries in Andernach and Sayn, which were dissolved in the 19th century, and later also in Niederwerth. They are mainly found in the chapels and churches on sepulchral monuments such as gravestones, grave slabs, epitaphs and grave crosses, but also on ecclesiastical utensils, reliquaries and antependia, and not least in connection with wall, glass and panel paintings. A special role is played by the more than thirty bells that have been found in the entire area since the end of the 13th century, which, with their rarely received inscriptions, often represent the first cultural-historical evidence of the respective places. The same applies to the basalt grave crosses, which have received little attention so far and can be found in almost every village since the beginning of the 16th century, as well as to the various types of field monuments such as niche monuments, field and wayside crosses, boundary and estate stones, which provide new and revealing insights into the rural and civic culture of the region.

The Pahlavi Yasna of the Gāthās and Yasna Haptaŋhāiti is a critical edition of the Pahlavi text, with citations of parallel passages in the Dēnkard, accompanied by a complete glossary and an introductory text-critical treatment of the text. Also provided is a parallel Avestan and Pahlavi text designed to portray the near word-by-word dependence of the gloss on the original Avestan. Owing to the very nature of the Pahlavi gloss, which itself is not a translation, no English translation is attempted.
